Minister reacts to proposed airline merger
Ernie McLean, Minister Responsible for Labrador, today called on the federal Minister of Transport, David Collenette to ensure that air services to northern and rural communities are not negatively impacted by the merger of Air Canada and Canadian Airlines proposed by ONEX yesterday.
"To a great extent, northern and rural communities rely on costly air travel to link them with the rest of the province and country," noted Minister McLean. "If this proposed merger goes ahead the federal government must ensure that there is no increase in cost or decrease in services as a result for our province."
