Department releases report into the death of Eugene Rose

The Department of Justice has released the report of the inquiry into the death of Eugene Rose at the Newfoundland and Labrador Youth Centre at Whitbourne on June 13, 1995.

Justice Minister Paul Dicks noted today that: "While Judge Barnable did not make any recommendations in his report, his observations mirrored the internal investigation that was conducted after the incident."

Judge Barnable also recognized in the report the improvements that have occurred at the facility since the death in 1995.

Minister Dicks will also be available to the media to discuss the report at 3:30 p.m. today in the media centre, main floor, east block, Confederation Building.

Copies of the report are available through the department or by calling (709) 729-6830.

Media contact: David Wells, Director of Communications, (709) 729-6830.
