Minister congratulates Friede Goldman Newfoundland on latest contract

Minister of Industry, Trade and Technology Sandra Kelly said today that she is pleased that Friede Goldman Newfoundland has secured a contract for work on a Department of National Defence submarine.

"This contract is good news for the company, and it comes on the heels of the recent announcement for equipment modifications to the Henry Goodrich. Today's announcement is another indication of the company's ability to secure solid contracts, and build on its reputation for quality work," noted Minister Kelly.

The contract, valued at about $1 million, will include repair and overhaul work on a Department of National Defence submarine, and is expected to employ approximately 45 people for six weeks.

Mary Hodder, MHA - Burin-Placentia West, was also pleased to hear the news of the new contract. "I am extremely pleased to see new contracts like this one being announced. Considering that Christmas is fast approaching, it is good news for the workers in my area, and it has come at a welcome time. This contract will give more people here work that will keep them in Newfoundland and Labrador, and it gives us hope that more work is coming in the future," she said.

Minister Kelly added: "This contract bodes well for Friede Goldman Newfoundland. It will give the company the chance to showcase its quality workmanship, and it has the potential to open up new opportunities for submarine work in the future."
