Minister leading provincial delegation to major aerospace show

Next week, Industry, Trade and Technology Minister Sandra Kelly will lead a delegation of 11 provincial companies and organizations to Vancouver for Aerospace North America, the premier defence and aerospace trade exhibition on the continent.

"This show provides a wealth of opportunities for networking and is a key deal-making event for businesses in the aerospace and defence industry," said Minister Kelly. "I am both pleased and proud to see that our province will be well represented at such a dynamic industry event."

Formerly known as Airshow Canada, the event will run from August 10-12, and is billed as North America's only all-sector aerospace and aviation trade show. The show is held every two years, and provides an opportunity for hundreds of exhibitors from 20 leading aerospace nations to do business with senior government, defence and industry visitors from 80 countries.

The Newfoundland and Labrador delegation consists of: The Defence and Aerospace Contractors of Newfoundland, a working group of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Technology Industries; Aerotech Industries; Air Atlantic Aircraft Maintenance Division; Gander Worldwide Inc.; Guigne Technologies Ltd.; Goose Bay Airport Corporation; Provincial Airlines Ltd. (Airborne Maritime Surveillance Division); Newtech Instruments Ltd.; Newfoundland Bonding and Composites Ltd.; SEA Systems Ltd.; and Terra Nova Marine Company Ltd.

Over the course of Aerospace North America, a number of conferences, seminars and meetings will take place. For instance, there will be a conference on "Aerospace 2000: Visualizing Global Air Transport in the New Millennium" and "Defence Procurement Opportunities in the New Millennium."

The event also includes a distinguished speaker program, which was organized by the Vancouver Board of Trade. Gordon Bethune, chairman and chief executive of Continental Airlines, will present his views on behalf of the airline industry at a breakfast meeting. Jack Schofield, chairman and chief executive of Airbus North America Inc., will be speaking on behalf of the aerospace industry.

"Newfoundland and Labrador's presence at this prestigious show signifies our commitment to the development of a strong, viable defence and aerospace industry in the province," said Minister Kelly.
