Update on re-opening of Government Service Centre, St. John's

The Department of Government Services and Lands advises that telephone calls directed to the Government Service Centre, 5 Mews Place, St. John's, will be answered while the building is temporarily closed.

Publicly-listed telephones numbers have been re-directed to phones in other government offices and employees will be staffing the phones until the Government Service Centre re-opens.

Officials are hoping that the centre will re-open on Monday, November 1.

A fire suppression system designed to protect records in the Vital Statistics section of the centre discharged on Monday afternoon. The building was subsequently closed and the Department of Works, Services and Transportation is examining the incident.

Officials of the Government Service Centre advise that no information was lost as a result of this incident.
