Open House - Inspection Stations - National Transportation Week

As part of National Transportation Week activities, the Department of Government Services and Lands is hosting open houses at its permanent inspection stations on June 7.

The open houses will take place as the department's five inspection stations located at points along the Trans Canada Highway near Foxtrap, Goobies, Grand Falls-Windsor, Pynn's Brook and Port aux Basques. Each of these inspection stations is staffed by four weigh scale inspectors on a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week basis.

As well, 14 highway enforcement officers work out of these stations. These officers are responsible for conducting roadside mechanical inspections on commercial and passenger vehicles.

Members of the traveling public are invited to stop in and view the stations and to meet highway enforcement staff.

NOTE TO EDITORS: All media representatives are invited to attend these open houses. For more information contact Kim Durdle or Geoff Ewing at (709)                                           739-2502.
