Double Mer Caribou Extension Zone opens

Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Kevin Aylward announced today that the Double Mer Caribou Extension Zone is open effective December 10.

Minister Aylward said: "This zone has had several reports of caribou in the area which are supported by the general movement patterns of collared animals or by sightings by departmental staff. This data warrants the opening of the Double Mer Caribou Zone for hunting purposes."

Wildlife officials will continue to monitor movements of the caribou. Additional zones are being monitored and will be opened or closed depending on the presence of the George River caribou herd.
