NOTE TO EDITORS:

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, would like to advise the media that he will be attending the official opening of the Salmonier Nature Park for the 1999 season on Friday, June 4. The opening ceremony will begin at 10 a.m.

Salmonier Nature Park serves as the delivery centre for an environmental education program, Project WILD. The park has also become a major tourist attraction over the years as a place where visitors to the province can see many of our native wildlife up close.

Salmonier Nature Park focuses on wildlife rehabilitation and research in environmental monitoring. Its primary mandate however, remains environmental education with the main target audience the Newfoundland and Labrador public, primarily family groups and children. School groups in the spring and fall make up a large component of visitors to the park.
