Forest Resource Road Approved on Salmonier Line

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, is pleased to announce a contract to construct a new resource road in the Deer Park, Salmonier Line area.

Cox's Construction Ltd. of Lawn, won the contract to construct 2.5 kilometres of type "C" road and a 14-foot clear span wooden bridge, near Deer Park. The $61,900 project will provide access to areas of "blowdown" timber for salvage and for restocking the area to create new, growing forest.

"Harvesting the naturally-felled timber in this area will allow for future extension of the road to accommodate silviculture operations in five or six years," said Mr. Aylward. "It is always desirable to offer multiple benefits in projects of this kind, and to ensure access for potential work down the road."

The project is tentatively set to begin May 21. It will continue for 10 weeks, and provide an estimated seven jobs.
