Minister announces closing of caribou zones in Labrador.

Kevin Aylward, Minister responsible for wildlife, wishes to remind hunters that effective April 30, 1999 the caribou hunting seasons in Labrador have been closed. The closed season applies to all areas for which an opened season was declared during the 1998/99 big game hunting season. These areas include the following: Seal Lake, Bay of Islands, Big River, Nipishish Lake, Grand Lake, Mulligan River, and Double Mer Barrens.

Additionally, the minister, recognizing past concerns associated with the Labrador caribou hunt wishes to congratulate hunters on the improvements made over the past season(s). "Improvements can continue to be made and I trust hunters will also continue to recognize the importance of practising responsible and ethical harvesting activities in the future."
