NOTE TO EDITORS:

R. John Efford, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, will be in attendance at a social to be held in honour of Petty Harbour fisherman, Bernard Martin on Sunday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at the Recreation Centre in Petty Harbour. Mr. Martin is a recipient of the 1999 Goldman Environmental Award. He recently received the award for his work to promote sustainable fishing methods after the collapse of the Grand Banks cod fishery in 1992. There were only seven winners of the award worldwide, with Mr. Martin being the only recipient from North America. Mr. Efford will attend the function on behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
