Minister welcomes Parliamentary Delegation from Denmark and Greenland

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Walter Noel today welcomed a delegation of legislators and officials from Denmark and Greenland who are visiting to obtain information on how the province develops and manages its mineral and offshore hydrocarbon resources.

The group of 19 includes members of the Joint Committee on Mineral Resources, the central political body for Greenlandic and Danish cooperation on minerals and hydrocarbons in Greenland. Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and has been governed by the Home Rule Administration since 1979. Its members are elected from the legislatures of Denmark and Greenland, and are responsible for following developments in the field of mineral resources and offshore hydrocarbons in Greenland. They submit recommendations to their governments on matters of prospecting, exploration, and exploration licences.

"It's important to build on our relationship with Greenland and Denmark, especially in sharing information on natural resource development," Minister Noel said. "The province has had tremendous growth in the mining sectors over the years, especially with the potential of Voisey's Bay and our offshore oil projects. I hope our guests learn from our positive experiences."

The delegation met with Minister Noel this morning, and received detailed briefings from officials of the Department of Mines and Energy on various aspects of the sector in the province.
