Minister to attend Change of Command Ceremonies in Gander and Goose Bay

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Walter Noel will attend the Change of Command Ceremony at 9 Wing Gander on Wednesday, July 28. Lieutenant-Colonel H.J.V. Rogers will be succeeded by Lieutenant-Colonel K.G. Jenkins.

"Lieutenant-Colonel Rogers has served 9 Wing Gander well during his time in command, and we wish him all the best with his future endeavours. We look forward to having an equally good working relationship with Lieutenant-Colonel Jenkins as we continue to market the facilities of CFB Gander for military use." Lieutenant-Colonel Jenkins is a native of Corner Brook, and a graduate of Memorial University's medical school. He served as base surgeon at CFB Goose Bay from 1987 to 1990, and since June 1997 has been Division Surgeon at 1 Canadian Air Division Headquarters in Winnipeg.

On Thursday, July 29, Minister Noel will be in Happy Valley-Goose Bay to attend the Change in Command Ceremony of 5 Wing Goose Bay. Colonel P.J. McCabe succeeds Colonel Doug Langton as Wing Commander.

"Colonel Langton has done tremendous work at CFB Goose Bay, including helping to coordinate the recent visit of Italian defence officials who have decided to begin operations there next year. It's fitting that the recent labour dispute has ended so his departure can take place on a high note. We welcome Colonel McCabe to our province as we continue to market the base to NATO allies who wish to conduct low-level flying in Labrador." Colonel McCabe has been Deputy Chief of Staff (Maintenance) at 1st Canadian Air Division Headquarters since August 1996.

As Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs, Minister Noel, in consultation with other departments and agencies, helps coordinate discussions with military officials and local representatives related to planning issues and provincial interests.
