Minister responds to concerns about Smallwood gravesite

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Walter Noel says it's unfortunate the monument to the late Premier Joseph R. Smallwood in Mount Pleasant Cemetery has not been completed to date. "We're still waiting to finalize agreement with the federal government on the plaques to be attached."

"However, there is no excuse for the site not being properly maintained in the meantime. The province has now arranged to ensure this is done," stated Minister Noel.

"Government is committed to making sure the resting place of Mr. Smallwood is maintained in a manner befitting a person who made such a great contribution to our province and country."
