Premier addresses group at Harvard University

While in Boston for the Team Atlantic Mission to New England, Premier Tobin delivered a presentation today at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University.

Premier Tobin's presentation focused on the Churchill River Power Project, and its potential as an economically viable and environmentally sound energy source for the United States in addressing energy demands.

"Hydro power is the most efficient and reliable of all renewable energy sources," Premier Tobin told an audience of approximately 50 faculty, students and other invited guests during the presentation. "The choices we make in addressing our energy demands will demonstrate to the world the depth of our commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions."

Premier Tobin went on to highlight the current energy market in the United States, and how hydro power addresses some of the inherent environmental and demand issues. The premier then gave an overview of the new developments planned for the Churchill River, and the benefits this power source would have for American consumers.

"The relationship between Canada and the United States serves as a model for international relations," noted Premier Tobin. "As we look for solutions to global challenges such as energy demands and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, we must meet these challenges together," said the premier.

The Weatherhead Center for International Affairs is an independent component of Harvard University's faculty of arts and science. It operates as a research center, providing a multidisciplinary environment for policy-relevant research on international issues. The center sponsors a wide variety of internationally-focused seminars, conferences, workshops, research programs and fellowships throughout the year.

While in Boston, Premier Tobin also met with Canadian-born world-renowned economist John Kenneth Galbraith, a professor of economics at Harvard for many years.
