Premier congratulates Lee Churchill on performance at Canada Winter Games

Premier Brian Tobin extends his congratulations to triple gold medallist Lee Churchill. Lee, a member of the Newfoundland cross country ski team, is competing at the Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook.

"Lee's performance at the Canada Winter Games has been nothing short of outstanding," said Premier Tobin. "This is the first time in the history of the Canada Games that a Newfoundland athlete has ever won three gold medals. Lee is both an exceptional athlete and individual."

"The energy, dedication and obvious enjoyment of the sport has paid off in the results we are witnessing this week at Canada's premiere sporting event. On behalf of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, I extend my congratulations to Lee and wish him and his team mates all the best in tomorrow's relay race," said Tobin.

Lee, a 21 year-old native of Hodge's Cove has won gold medals in the individual start/classic technique mens 10 km, individual start/free technique mens 10 km, and free technique/pursuit start mens 15 km events. Lee started racing in 1991. He has been a member of the provincial team for five years and World Junior Championships team member in Canmore, Alberta. He is the son of Robert and Debbie Churchill.
