Premier disappointed court case against education reform continues

Premier Brian Tobin commented today on the decision of those opposing education reform to continue their court case against the amendment to Term 17 of the Terms of Union. Yesterday, those who brought the case filed an appeal in the Newfoundland Court of Appeal seeking to overturn the decision of the Newfoundland Supreme Court which upheld the validity of the Term 17 amendment.

"I am disappointed that those who oppose education reform have decided to continue the fight in the courts, at increasing expense to themselves and to the public," said Mr. Tobin. "I had truly hoped that the opponents of education reform would have turned the page, but clearly some have not."

"What we should all be doing now, parents, students, school councils, school boards, citizens and government, is to focus on achieving the best situation for our children in the classroom," said Mr. Tobin.
