Grant for the Provincial Tidy Towns Program from Waste Management Trust Fund

Oliver Langdon, Minister of Environment and Labour, is pleased to announce that approval has been granted under the Newfoundland and Labrador Waste Management Trust Fund for a grant of $50,000 in support of the Provincial Tidy Towns Program.

The grant will be used by the Tidy Towns Committee to continue to provide a provincial focus for community based beautification and environmental programs and to participate in programs designed to build civic pride.

Tidy Towns will now be able to expand and enhance its program for next year. From its inception, Tidy Towns has provided many benefits in the form of reduction of litter and debris in and around communities, the promotion of participation in provincial recycling programs, the reduction of waste entering our landfills and the beautification and clean-up of our cities and towns.

"Tidy Towns can now reach an even greater number of communities that can benefit from its pro-active approach to improving the environmental health and well-being of the province," said Minister Langdon. "I am delighted that this program can benefit from the Waste Management Trust Fund. Programs like Tidy Towns are an great example of what can be accomplished when citizens of our province take pride in their community and their environment."

The Newfoundland and Labrador Waste Management Trust Fund is the most progressive community based environmental program ever introduced in the province. The program is administered by the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board and provides partial funding for waste management and environmental initiatives.
