NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Forest Management District 1 (Amendment) - Spider Pond
Proponent: Newfoundland Forest Service

The proponent proposes an amendment to the five year operating plan for domestic wood cutting for an area approximately five kilometres southwest of Harbour Grace adjacent to Spider Pond. The amendment will entail enlarging the current domestic cutting area by 55 hectares and will result in approximately 300 cubic meters of wood being harvested. The rational for this amendment is to harvest burnt wood from a forest fire in the spring of 1999. The burnt wood is to be harvested to alleviate pressure on standing green timber. The undertaking was registered on August 19, 1999; public comments are due on September 24, 1999; and the minister's decision is due on October 3, 1999.

South Dildo Fur Tannery
Proponent: Nfld Heritage Tannery & Trading Post

The proponent plans to construct a fur tannery and manufacturing facility in South Dildo, Trinity Bay on the east side of Route 80. An existing building will be used for the tannery and will be located on a 1,750 square metre site. A total of approximately 10,000 hides will be treated each year. The undertaking was registered on August 23, 1999; public comments are due on September 24, 1999; and the minister's decision is due on October 7, 1999.
