Environment and Labour Minister clarifies government's position on clean up of Hope Brook Mine

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon stated today that his department is working to recover the full cost of the clean-up for the Hope Brook mine site on the southwest coast of the province.

"Officials in my department are working closely with the Department of Justice and legal consultants in Toronto in dealing with Price Waterhouse Coopers, the receivers for Royal Oak Mines, with the full intention of acquiring the full cost of clean-up of the former gold mine," stated Minister Langdon.

The receivers are continuing to operate and pay for a care and maintenance program at the site on behalf of Royal Oak Mines. This program ensures there are no immediate environmental risks at the site.
