(Environment and Labour)

NOTE TO EDITORS:

Oliver Langdon, Minister of Environment and Labour, will officially launch the 10th Annual Vehicle Emissions Clinic at the Exploits Valley Mall in Grand Falls - Windsor on July 5 at 10 a.m.

The clinic is sponsored by the Department of Environment and Labour in partnership with Environment Canada, the Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association and SPX Automotive Diagnostics.

The goal of the clinic is to raise public awareness of the pollution in vehicle exhaust and to educate drivers on how proper vehicle maintenance leads to reduced exhaust emissions. The "No Fees, No Fines" clinics are voluntary. Each vehicle tested will undergo an under-hood inspection for the presence of pollution control devices, and will have its exhaust measured for harmful pollutants such as carbon monoxide and gasoline vapours. All findings by the testing team are forwarded to the driver.
