Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item. NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
The proponent plans to construct two wharves, one on Flower's Island and another in Nameless Cove on the Northern Peninsula to provide ferry access for tourists to a lighthouse on Flower's Island. The wharves will be constructed to accommodate a 10-20 passenger ferry for the one kilometre boat ride to the island. A paved parking lot and wooden information kiosk is also proposed for the mainland site. The undertaking was registered on April 21; public comments are due on May 22; and the minister's decision is due on June 4.
The proponent proposes to construct a shrimp processing plant in Charlottetown, Labrador adjacent to the community wharf. The facility will be a 2,500 square metre single storey building. It will contain cold storage facilities, ice making equipment, plant services, cooking facilities and office/worker facilities. The plant will have a throughput capacity of 32,000 pounds of whole shrimp per eight hour shift. The undertaking was registered on April 21; public comments are due on May 22; and the minister's decision is due on June 5.
