(Office of the Chief Electoral Officer)

Time off for voting

Voters who are working on polling day, February 9, are entitled to have four consecutive hours in order to vote while the polls are open (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Newfoundland and 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in parts of Labrador on Atlantic Time).

If the hours of work do not allow for a total of four consecutive hours in which to vote, the employer is required to provide enough time off to ensure that the four hours are available, without a reduction in pay.

If it is necessary to grant time off, it may be done at the employer's convenience.
