Consultation forums on economy continue tonight; additional meetings scheduled

Public consultations on an economic renewal strategy for Newfoundland and Labrador will continue tonight in Mount Pearl, beginning 7 p.m. at the Legion Community Centre, Park Avenue.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Jobs and Growth has scheduled two more meetings for St. John's, one for December 14 and another for early January. These are in addition to other extra meetings already scheduled for the St. John's area in order to accommodate the number of individuals and groups who want to make presentations to the committee.

The presenters scheduled for tonight's forum are:

  • Mayor Dave Denine, City of Mount Pearl;

  • Dr. Axel Meisen, President, Memorial University of Newfoundland;

  • Anne Manuel, Executive Director, Craft Council of Newfoundland and Labrador;

  • Ramona McCarthy, Chairperson, Mount Pearl CCIP Inc.;

  • Yvonne Rideout, Executive Director, Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture;

  • Winston Fiander, Canadian Executive Services Organization;

  • Rick Pippy, Shells and Fins;

  • William S. Kennedy, President, Mount Pearl Chamber of Commerce; and

  • Steve Kent, Executive Director, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association.

 

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 9 in St. John's, Holiday Inn, beginning at 7 p.m. Scheduled presenters are:

  • Mayor Andy Wells, City of St. John's;

  • Mayor Ron Smith, Town of Conception Bay South;

  • Enterprise Education Students, Bishop's College;

  • Penelope Rowe, Executive Director, Community Services Council;

  • Dr. Hilary Rodrigues, member, and Perry Pike, Chair, Newfoundland and Labrador Food Processing Industry IAS Committee;

  • Rick Penney, Chair, Junior Achievement, Newfoundland and Labrador;

  • Vince Withers, Chair, Board of Governors, College of the North Atlantic;

  • Eugene Conway, businessperson, Conception Harbour;

  • Neil Lewis, Dorset Museum in Fleur-de-Lys;

  • Randy Follett, Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council;

  • Ed Woodrow, St. John's; and

  • Darren Butt, Advanced Post Secondary Solutions.
