The Cabinet Committee on Rural Revitalization will meet in St. John's Tuesday night with members of the Capital Coast Development Alliance.

This is one in a series of meetings the committee is holding with each of the province's 20 regional economic development boards.

John Efford, chair of the committee and Minister of Development and Rural Renewal (Acting), says the committee is meeting with each board to learn first-hand about the progress made by the boards to date, and to discuss options to advance the boards' strategic economic plans more aggressively.

"Government supports the efforts of the boards to generate economic activity within their respective regions, and we are satisfied that the boards are making solid progress toward achieving that objective. This is very encouraging, especially considering the fact that the boards were still at the blueprint stage just two years ago," Mr. Efford said.

The meeting with Capital Coast Development Alliance will be held at Hotel Newfoundland, beginning at 7 p.m.

NOTE TO EDITORS: An opportunity will be provided for news media just prior to the meeting for doing an interview or taking a photo.
