1998 Christmas Lights Across Canada tree-lighting ceremony

On Thursday, December 3, the people of Newfoundland and Labrador will celebrate the beginning of the Christmas season in a special way as they join with Canadians across the country in the annual "Christmas Lights Across Canada" ceremony.

The giant Christmas tree in front of the Confederation Building, East Block, will be lit to coincide with similar ceremonies taking place in each of the other provinces.

The ceremony will feature music provided by the Salvation Army St. John's Citadel Band, a sing-a-long lead by the Eugene Vaters Academy Elementary Choir. Christmas cake, hot chocolate, and other refreshments will be served.

Premier Brian Tobin will join Works, Services and Transportation Minister Lloyd Matthews, emcee Harry Brown, and the general public for this special event which begins at 7:00 p.m. in front of the Confederation Building, East Block.
