CBS Bypass Road Open to Traffic
Works, Services and Transportation Minister Lloyd Matthews, together with
Ralph Wiseman, MHA - Topsail, today announced the completion of Phase One of the
Conception Bay South Bypass Road. The stretch of highway from Fowler's Road to Foxtrap
Access Road is now open to traffic.
Matthews said construction of the Conception Bay South Bypass Road will be
completed in three phases. "We're very happy to have the first phase completed and
open to traffic. The new highway will enable residents to travel to their destinations
more efficiently and safely." Work is continuing on Phase Two, from the Foxtrap
Access Road towards Legion Road, with the final phase from Legion Road towards Seal Cove
to be completed before the expiration of the Regional Trunk Roads Agreement in 2002.
"The Conception Bay South Bypass Road represents a $30 million
investment in highway improvements," said Minister Matthews. "To date, we have
spent approximately $17 million on construction of the Conception Bay South Bypass Road
with the remaining funding to be announced under the Regional Trunk Roads Agreement."
MHA Ralph Wiseman says the new highway is a much anticipated thoroughfare
for residents all along Conception Bay South. "The new bypass road will reduce
traffic flows on more residential streets while providing motorists with a more direct
route into St. John's."
