Contract awarded for Paton Hospital Project
Lloyd Matthews, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Sandra
Kelly, MHA - Gander, today announced that a $1,015,000 contract has been awarded to Granco
Construction Ltd. of Gander for Phase 2, Contract 6C, of the James Paton Memorial Hospital
project in Gander.
The contract covers the replacement of brick work, windows androofing of
the original hospital structure.
Kelly said that the work will commence immediately and is scheduled for
completion by October of this year. She added that the work is a portion of government's
$5 million allocation to the Paton Hospital redevelopment project during the current
fiscal year.
The 1998-99 budget allocation also enables tenders to be called for
building systems infrastructure for the new extension. This major phase will feature the
installation of key mechanical components such as heating, ventilation and air
conditioning systems along with the installation of electrical services running from the
hospital's existing utility plant.
Two tenders are being planned for this phase, with the electrical
component to be called in September and the tender for mechanical
work to be called in October. Kelly noted that the calling of tenders for
this phase is slightly behind schedule due to delays in the preparation of detailed
engineering plans and specifications.
