Consultants announced for health care/school facilities, Northern
Peninsula and Western Newfoundland
Premier Brian Tobin, together with Works, Services and Transportation
Minister Lloyd Matthews, and St. Barbe MHA Chuck Furey, today announced consultant
appointments for work on hospital and school facilities in Western Newfoundland.
Plans for a new health facility in Bonne Bay will get underway over the
next few months now that a consultant has been appointed. EK Jerrett Associates and EDM
Consultants have been appointed to begin preliminary planning and design of the new health
facility. The preliminary design work is valued at approximately $270,000.
Premier Brian Tobin says investment in health care infastructure is a key
component for enhancing health services throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. "We
made a commitment to invest in health facilities and to replace old structures with multi
purpose health centres. Today's announcement is part of that commitment to rebuild and
reinvest in health facilities."
Area MHA Chuck Furey says the new facility is necessary. "A
replacement health facility which offers a diverse range of health services for Bonne Bay
is a priority for government. We are all anxious to begin planning for a facility which
meets the needs of area residents."
In addition, Chuck Furey also announced today that consultants have been
appointed to begin work on various school facilities along the West Coast. For District 3,
Corner Brook, Deer Lake and St. Barbe, EK Jerrett Associates and EDM Consultants have been
appointed for roof repair and replacement for schools in that district. "Investing in
infrastructure is an important component of the province's commitment to education."
