The following information was provided by WST Minister Lloyd Matthews
earlier today during a media visit to a construction site on the Outer Ring Road:
Status Report on The Outer Ring Road
When complete, the Outer Ring Road will provide a thoroughfare around
the city of St. John's. The project represents $68.2 million in road construction
expenditures.
Since the project first got underway three years ago, approximately $20
million has been spent. This year, government has committed $15 million, bringing the
total funding to $35 million after this year's construction season.
Between 60 and 65 per cent of the Outer Ring Road will be complete by
the end of the construction season this year.
By fall of 1998, our goal is to have several portions of the Outer Ring
Road open to traffic, in particular sections from Donovan's Industrial Park towards the
Allandale Road interchange.
The completion date for the Outer Ring Road, in its entirety, will be
2002.
