Hospital redevelopment contracts awarded

Works, Services and Transportation Minister Lloyd Matthews, together with Health Minister Joan Marie Aylward, today announced more than $25 million in contract work for redevelopment of hospital facilities in St. John's.

Olympic Construction Ltd., of St. John's was awarded the contract for the architectural systems and building completion for the new Janeway Health Centre. The contract, valued at $13,160,000 will begin immediately for completion by March 31, 2000.

Another contract, valued at $5,770,000 was awarded to Sayers and Associates for the installation of air distribution systems and associated work at the new Janeway. Work on this project will also begin immediately and be completed by February 9, 2000.

The contract for the installation of the electrical systems at the facility was awarded to Jendore Limited of St. John's. The contract, valued at $4,372,000 will be completed by December 9, 1999.

Marco Services Limited of St. John's was awarded a contract valued at $2,028,000 for extensions and renovations to emergency and diagnostic imaging departments of the Health Sciences Centre. This project is scheduled for completion by February 28, 1999.

Minister Matthews said redevelopment of hospital facilities in St. John's represents an investment of $130 million in the province's health care infrastructure. All work on hospital redevelopment should be completed by the spring of the year 2000.
