Lloyd Matthews, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, and Ernest McLean, MHA - Lake Melville, today announced the awarding of two contracts for upgrading R500, the Trans Labrador Highway.

A $5,344,700 contract has been awarded to S. M. Construction Limited of Stephenville Crossing for upgrading from East Metchin River towards Churchill Falls, km 231.6 to 263.6.

Labrador Construction Limited of St. John's has been awarded a $4,626,765 contract for upgrading from Churchill Falls towards Rapids Brook, km 263.6 to 285.2.

The minister said that work will immediately commence and will be completed by October 31, 1998.
