The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

NLBA announces Canada Games and provincial coaches

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association announced the men's and ladies coaches for the 2001 Canada Games in Ontario this past week. The head coach for the ladies program is Tami Pennell who is currently the assistant coach for the Memorial Seahawks program and is a graduate from Stella Maris High School in Trepassey. Ms. Pennell is currently teaching at Holy Heart of Mary in St. John's and competed on several provincial teams in the past.

The head coach for the men's program is Nash Miller of Fogo Island. Mr. Miller has coached various provincial teams over the past five seasons and is currently teaching at Fogo Island Central High School.

The junior men's program will be coached by Randy Ash of Mount Pearl. Mr. Ash is currently the coach of the Mount Pearl senior boys team and has coached at the provincial level for the past two seasons.

The junior ladies team will be coached by Paul Byrne who is presently coaching the senior girls at Prince of Wales Collegiate in St. John's and is a past assistant coach with Memorial's men's and women's programs. Mr. Byrne has been coaching at the provincial level for the past five seasons.

David Constantine of Dunville will coach the midget boys program. Mr. Constantine is presently coaching the Laval senior boy's team in Placentia and coached at the national level for the first time last summer.

Amy O'Rielly will handle the provincial midget girl's program for this coming summer. Ms. O'Rielly is currently attending Memorial University where she is a member of the women's varsity program, at present she is sitting out with a knee injury. She is a former high school star with Laval High in Placentia and had been a member of various provincial teams in the recent past.
