Hoop championships announced

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association has finalized the sites and dates for the 1999 Molson Provincial Senior Basketball Championships. Tournament Director George Power anticipates a full tournament in each category. Mr. Power said, "While the basketball boom in the school system has not yet reached the senior level, there has been a consistent increase in registration for our provincial tournaments over the past five years. This year our association will be providing our members with seven championship tournaments. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our corporate sponsor, Molson Brewery, for their continued support to the overall development of the sport at the senior level."

This year the NLBA will host a total of seven provincial tournaments as listed below:

Division I Men                                          Trepassey         April 23-25

Division II Men                                          Lewisporte         February 19-21

Division III Men                                  Clarenville        March 5-7

Division IV Men                                 Carbonear        March 12-14

Ed Browne `A' and `B' (Masters)         St. John's                April 9-11

Hall of Fame Banquet
Division II Ladies                                 St. John's                February 19-21

The deadline for applications is December 15, 1998. Teams wishing to enter any of the above provincial tournaments should contact their local leagues for applications. The registration fee for each event is $275 and only teams registered with the NLBA are eligible to compete.
