The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Canada Winter Games Selection tournament - Judo

On Sunday, November 1, starting at 9 a.m. there will be a Canada Winter Games Selection tournament and Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador Invitational tournament for all weights, ages, sexes and belt levels. The tournament will be held at the MUN gym.

Representing Newfoundland and Labrador will be clubs from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Stephenville, Stephenville Crossing, Corner Brook, Gander, and the four clubs from St. John's; Astra, St. John's School of Judo, Sankyo and the host MUN club. Also, St. Pierre is tentatively scheduled to send a contingent of their athletes.

This tournament will be a selection tournament to help the provincial coaching squad of Maurice Sheppard, Felicity O'Brien and Michael Kay pre-screen our province's best Judoka so that they can represent our province at the upcoming Canada Winter Games in Corner Brook in February of 1998.

The general public is most welcome to attend this exciting event, and the admission is free.
