Outdoor Volleyball

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association has planned various outdoor volleyball activities this summer that will run in different areas of the province. There will be outdoor volleyball instructional clinics and tournaments in four regions, as well as a St. John's outdoor volleyball league.

The areas and dates for the instructional clinics and tournaments include:

Western Region Corner Brook July 4 and 5
Central Region Grand Falls-Windsor July 25 and 26
Eastern Region CBS August 7 and 8
Burin Region Marystown date open for now

The instructors for the clinics are Carla Edwards (former AUAA all-star), Pat Horan (NLVA registrar) and Cheryl Oldford (MUN Seahawk setter and AUAA all-star). The format includes an instructional clinic with game scenarios on day one and tournament play on day two. These activities are open to male and female high school athletes and with a $30 registration fee, each player would receive a NLVA tank top.

The St. John's Outdoor Volleyball League will take place at Churchill Park and will start Thursday, July 2 and will run through the middle of August. It will be offered for junior players (age 13-19) on Tuesdays 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. and on Thursdays 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. for senior players. It is open to both male and female players. League teams of two players will be picked on a random basis each week. Individual players will accumulate points for participation and wins, with the top three finishers receiving prizes at the end of the season. Recreation teams of three and four players may also be possible depending on the demand. The initial membership will be $15 and players will receive a NLVA tank top. Leagues will be sponsored by Labatt's for the senior league and Pepsi Cola for the junior league.
