New interim Technical Director for soccer

Dragan Mirkovic has been hired as the interim Technical Director for the Newfoundland Soccer Association (NSA). His appointment was announced by NSA president Angus Barrett of St. John's.

Mirkovic came to Newfoundland from Yugoslavia where he played professional soccer for eight years. A striker, he also played several international soccer games as a member of the Yugoslavia national club.

He emerged as the top scorer in the 1983 Middle Europe Cup tournament. Prior to coming to Newfoundland, Mirkovic was employed as coach of the Makarska Soccer Club's under-15-years team in Croatia.

A member of the Holy Cross squad in the provincial Challenge Cup competition, he was the league's top scorer for the past two seasons. "We feel we have obtained the services of a soccer person with a great deal of knowledge and expertise," Barret said.

"The NSA is very determined to continue the work started by Andy Cameron, and is certain that Dragan Mirkovic is very capable of doing just this."

Mirkovic replaces Cameron who held the position for the past three years, but accepted a similar position with the Alberta Soccer Association May 1.

Mirkovic has already taken up his duties.
