The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Silver Blades Figure Skating Club will play host to more than 500 skaters, coaches, and parents who will be attending the Central Dairies/Tropicanna 1998 Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Figure Skating Championships February 27 to March 1 at the Clarenville Stadium in Clarenville.

Seventy Four Avalon skaters, 40 Eastern, 43 Central, 48 Western and 35 Labrador skaters will participate.

Two hundred fourty entries have been received in 40 categories of ladies and mens singles, dance and pairs. Opening ceremonies get under way at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Competitions take place Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with medal presentations at the end of each day.

Chief referee, Agnes Thistle, joined by Newfoundland judges, one from Ottawa, Ontario and one from Nova Scotia will be charged with the responsibility of determining the placing of the skaters.

Chief accountant Marie Norris, computer accountant Karen Brett and 20 local accounting support staff from the host club will be charged with the responsibility of correctly tabulating the marks awarded by the judges.
