The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador: The St. John's Figure Skating Club continued its dominance of precision skating in the province with gold medals in all categories at the 1998 North Atlantic Petroleum Newfoundland and Labrador Sectional Precision Skating Championship February 6 and 7 at Memorial Stadium in St. John's. In the Junior category, Friction on Ice coached by Jean McCloy, skated to their fifth consecutive provincial championship. Ice Crystals from Conception Bay North FSC got the silver and Silver Shadows from Silver Blades FSC in Corner Brook took the bronze. In the Juvenile category, the Ice Pix from St. John's FSC coached by Jean McCloy, took the gold medal for the third straight year. Peppermint Twist from Silver Blades Fiquire Skating Club in Corner Brook got the silver and Ice Angels from the Notre Dame Figure Skating Club in Lewisporte took the bronze. In the Novice category, the Signals, from St. John's FSC took the gold, Novice Starlites from Mount Pearl FSC got the silver and Silver Sensations from Silver Blades FSC in Corner Brook skated to the bronze. In the Adult category, Class Act from the St. John's FSC coached by Valerie Dumaresque took the gold for the third year in a row. Sharp Edges from Mount Pearl skated to the silver and Ice Breakers from Notre Dame FSC in Lewisporte got the bronze. The Cornel Trophy for Unison and Presentation was awarded to the Ice Crystals from Conception Bay North and the Butt Trophy for Most Spirited Team also went to the Ice Crystals. The top three teams in each event have earned the right to represent Newfoundland at the Canadian Precision Championships to be held in Ottawa, March 5-8. Contact:Judy Mugford, (709) 781-2036.
