The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial high school boys and girls soccer this weekend

Three provincial high school champions will be declared this coming weekend as the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation continues its athletic calendar. Newfoundland and Labrador School Milk Foundation/Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador and Keyin College are the official sponsors of the tournaments.

The 4A Boys Soccer Championships are being hosted by St. Lawrence Central High. With eight teams competing, it is one of the largest 4A events in recent years. Two divisions of four will play a round robin format with the top four teams advancing to Saturday's semi-finals. The championship game is scheduled for 12 noon Saturday. Division A will see action from the host and defending champion St. Lawrence, O'Donel High (Mount Pearl), Laval High (Placentia) and Exploits Valley High (Grand Falls-Windsor). In Division B, Stephenville High, Holy Heart of Mary (St. John's), Gander Collegiate and St. Francis High (Harbour Grace) will square off.

Holy Heart of Mary High in St. John's will host the eight teams competing for the 4A Girls Championship. Division one consists of the host, Queen Elizabeth Regional High (Foxtrap), Herdman Collegiate (Corner Brook) and Botwood Collegiate. Division two will see competition between O'Donel High (Mount Pearl), Marystown Central High, Bishops College (St. John's) and St. Francis High (Harbour Grace). The first games of the tournament will be played at 4 p.m. Thursday. Round robin games will be played Thursday and eight games on Friday on five St. John's pitches - Fieldian Grounds, MUN, Wishingwell and two at Torbay Recreation Center. The championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Three teams will play a round robin format to decide the 3A Girls Provincial Championship. Mobile Central High will host St. Michael's (Bell Island) and St. Lawrence Central High. Games will be played Friday and Saturday at the Bay Bulls Soccer Pitch. The championship game gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday.
