The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Provincial Basketball Tryouts

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will be conducting tryouts for the midget (born in 1983 or later) and juvenile (born in 1981 or later) boys and girls provincial team programs over the Easter vacation at various venues in the St. John's/Mount Pearl area. The camps are open to athletes residing from Gander to the east coast and to athletes in Labrador. Applications are available from all basketball coaches, physical education teachers and the Provincial Training Centre in Torbay. Athletes must complete the pre-registration application and forward it to the indicated address with the $25registration fee prior to the April 1 deadline. The NLBA will not be permitting on site registration for any of the above programs. Newfoundland will play host to the 1998 Eastern Canadian Midget Championships during the last weekend of July while the juvenile programs will compete in PEI on the same date.

A west coast midget girls tryout is scheduled for St. Stephen's school in Stephenville on April 18 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m.- 5 p.m. This camp is open to athletes residing in Labrador and from Gander to the west coast. There will be no pre-registration for this camp.

There will also be a tryout camp for the Men's Junior (born in 1979 or later) provincial team at the Junior National Championships scheduled for Nova Scotia in early August. The camp will be conducted on April 14 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. and on April 15 from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. A registration fee of $20 will be charged on site. The camp is open to all athletes on the island and in Labrador.
