The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Molson Provincial Senior Volleyball Championships

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association will be hosting six Molson Senior Provincial Championships this weekend March 13 and 14 in Gander with a total of 53 teams. In the men's tournaments there will be seven teams competing for the top spot in the A Championship with the Guards favoured to repeat as provincial champions, however there are three other teams who could claim the title, Don Cherrys, Onca, or Benders. The remaining teams for the event are Pasadena, St. Albans and Marine Institute. In the men's B, 12 teams are registered for the event with Onca Old Thyme favoured to repeat as winners, however they will be pushed with strong competition from Smugglers and Conne River. The remaining teams are: Molson Exploits, Greco, CONA - St, John's, Don Cherrys 2, Gander, Loopers, Corner Brook Cheers, Trinity Bight Barons and Zapata's. The men's C Championship will have five teams competing with St. Pierre and Shanco from Musgravetown expected to be strong. The other teams are CONA from Corner Brook, Deer Lake and CBS Panthers.

On the women's side the A Championship will see four strong teams compete for top spot with Hickman's leading the way as they recently won the Eastern Open Championship the other teams are Easy Street Pub, Press & Bean and Jungle Jims. Ladies B will see 13 teams compete for top spot with Academy Canada, Jacobs, Strikers from Marystown and New World Fitness expected to be strong. The remaining teams are: St. Pierre, Community Cable from Bay Roberts, Air Atlantic, Labatts, Gander, Clarenville, Samkayle, Bell Island, and Jungle Jims. The Ladies C Championship will have 12 teams: CONA - St. John's, Loopers, St. Pierre Scorpions, Woodman Sea Products, John Cabots Crewe, O'Reillys Pub, CONA - Corner Brook, Conne River, Trinity Bight, St. Pierre Sagittaires, East Side Marios and Deer Lake.

Matches will be played in Carmanville School Complex, Glovertown, Gambo, Glenwood and five courts in Gander itself. All awards will be supplied by Molson the provincial sponsor of NLVA senior volleyball.
