Nominations announced for annual sport awards

Rosalind Pound, chairperson of the awards program, would like to announce the names of all nominees for the 1997 Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Annual Awards Program.

A total of 57 nominations were received from provinical sports organizations, which had input from the media and the general public.

Nineteen nominations were for Junior Male and Female Athletes of the Year; 15 nominations were for senior Male and Female Athletes of the Year; eight nominations were for Coach of the Year; five nominations were for Executive of the Year; 10 nominations were for Team of the year.

The number of nominations once again indicates considerable support throughout the province for the annual awards provided by Sport Newfoundland and Labrador," said Pound. She further pointed out that although there is only one winner in each category, it is an honour for each person to be reconized for their outstanding performance in 1997 by their nomination alone.

"We would like to sincerely thank our major sponsors Labatt Brewery, along with our associate sponsors Air Atlantic, Brookfield Dairy Group, Investors, and 3M for their continued financial support of the awards program," said Pound.

The Provincial Awards Program Banquet and presentation of awards will take place at the Delta Convention Centre on March 28, 1998.
