Iceland's tourism minister to visit the province

Halldor Blondal, Minister of Tourism and Transport, Government of Iceland will visit Newfoundland and Labrador on August 5 and 6, 1998. The purpose of the official visit is to discuss tourism development and partnership opportunities for the upcoming Viking Millennium in the year 2000.

The visit is an opportunity for the Government of Iceland and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to share information and build relationships essential to the success of the Viking Millennium.

Minister Blondal and his delegation and Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister Sandra Kelly will travel to L'Anse au Meadows on August 5 for meetings with officials from the Viking Trail Tourism Association, as well as Parks Canada/Canadian Heritage personnel.

On Thursday, August 6 at 10:30 a.m. Minister Blondal and Minister Kelly will be available to meet with media in St. John's. The news briefing will take place in the foyer of the west block of the Confederation Building, directly outside the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation on the 2nd Floor.
