More provincial parks open for the 1998 season

Four more provincial parks opened today for the 1998 summer season. These parks, with the number of available campsites listed in parentheses are:

  • Sandbanks (25)

  • Sir Richard Squires Memorial (159)

  • Pinware River (15)

  • J. T. Cheeseman (102)

Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister Sandra Kelly noted that with today's announcement, 10 parks and the Cape St. Mary's Ecological reserve are now open, and the remaining 10 provincial parks are scheduled to open on June 12.

"I invite everyone to fully explore and enjoy all our provincial parks, as each one has its own unique features and appeal," she said. "Sandbanks has many undulating sand dunes and long expanses of flat, sandy beaches, La Manche is a paradise for birdwatchers, Butter Pot has five kilometres of hiking and nature trails and Frenchman's Cove has a varied habitat that will fascinate both the serious and casual observer of nature."

The minister extended best wishes to all residents and tourists for a safe and enjoyable summer and asked that all park users help protect the natural environment of these special places for the benefit of present and future generations.
