The following is being released at the request of the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Provincial High School Wrestling Championships

The top high school wrestlers in the province will converge on Lourdes this weekend to take part in the High School Athletic Federation Provincial Wrestling championships. The event is sponsored by Newfoundland and Labrador School Milk Foundation/Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Keyin Tech.

The sport of wrestling in high school has seen a marked increase in participation over the past few years with 7 out of 11 regions having high school programs. They will compete in the following weight classes: (lbs) 75, 80, 85, 90, 95, 102, 110, 118, 126, 134, 142, 150, 158, 167, 177, 190 and Heavy Weight.

Our Lady of Lourdes High is the host school for this event. Schools registered for the event include: Templeton Collegiate and Herdman Collegiate (Corner Brook), St. Stephen's High (Stephenville), Bishop O'Reilly High (Port Au Port), Elwood High (Deer Lake), Leo Burke Academy (Bishops Falls), St. Mikes High (Grand Falls), Windsor Collegiate, O'Donel High (Mount Pearl), St. Boniface High (Bell Island), St. Augustine's High (Plum Point), Menihek High (Labrador City), St. Georges High (New Harbour), and Holy Trinity High (Hearts Content).

The team registering the most points will be awarded the team gold medals and championship banner. Individual gold, silver and bronze medals will be presented in each weight class.
