Life Network highlights Newfoundland whale watching

Newfoundland and Labrador's unique whale-watching product will be highlighted nationally when "A Whale of A Tale" is broadcast on the Life Network's Outdoor Adventure Canada this Thursday, January 22 at 10 p.m. and re-broadcast on Saturday, January 24.

Produced by Goldi Productions, who came to the province during the Cabot celebrations last summer, the program showcases the many humpback whales which frequent Newfoundland waters during the summer, and features some of the players involved with interpreting our unique natural wonders.

"Newfoundland and Labrador has the highest concentration of humpback whales in the world, and programs like Goldi's Outdoor Adventure Canada can surely help us get the message out," says Tourism, Culture and Recreation Minister Sandra Kelly. "Our tourism campaigns assert Newfoundland and Labrador as the place `where 10,000 year-old icebergs cross paths annually with 5,000 migratory humpback whales,' and visually, that's an incredibly powerful lure for our province."

The half-hour program was produced with the cooperation of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Wildland Tours, O'Brien' Whale and Bird Tours, and Captain Murphy's Bird Island Boat Tours.
