Minister Furey to participate in annual Mines and Energy Ministers' Conference Charles Furey, Minister of Mines and Energy, will participate in the annual meeting of federal/provincial/territorial Ministers of Mines and Energy on July 12-15 in Calgary, Alberta. "The annual meeting provides an opportunity for mines and energy ministers to come together to examine issues of mutual concern and discuss them with the federal minister and industry representatives," says Furey. "I intend to take advantage of these meetings to raise the profile of the many mines and energy developments in Newfoundland and Labrador. In particular, I intend to highlight the positive aspects of the Churchill River Project and the impact it will have in helping Canada to achieve its Kyoto commitment." The energy ministers will meet on Monday, July 13. The meeting will focus on a wide range of federal/provincial issues including climate change and electricity reliability in a competitive market, energy trade and energy regulatory issues will be addressed. The mines ministers' meeting will be held on July 14 and will focus on such issues as regulatory efficiency, funding for geological surveys and Canada's investment climate for mining.
