(Minister Responsible for Labrador)
Minister comments on Snowmobile Trail
announcement
Ernie McLean, Minister Responsible for Labrador,
said today that Monday's announcement of a new snowmobile
industry for the province, including a proposed multi-million
dollar integrated snowmobile trail, is good news for all
residents of the province.
Mr. McLean said: "Government is determined
to capitalize on the growing snowmobile industry in this province
and I am committed to making sure that Labrador's interests are
promoted and advanced.
"Labrador already has a number of
operational trails and more are under construction. In fact,
Southern Labrador has the most groomed trails in the province,
about 300 kilometres. The federal and provincial governments have
given $1.6 million for the development of trails in Labrador over
the past two years alone and I am confident that more funding
will be provided over time.
"Government intends to work with community
development associations and snowmobile organizations in Labrador
to ensure that trail systems on the island and in Labrador
complement one another and that the snowmobile industry grows in
a manner that benefits all residents of this province."
