Minister of Justice opens new detachment of the RCMP in Nain

Minister of Justice and Attorney General Chris Decker will officially open the RCMP detachment in Nain, Labrador this evening. There are 42 detachments of the RCMP in the province.

"The new detachment of the RCMP in Nain represents a further commitment by the RCMP to provide more effective policing in this province, especially in the northern areas," said the minister.

This is Police Week in Canada. Police Week is time for the police agencies and communities to work together to build partnerships which will create a stronger and more meaningful bond between the police and the communities they serve.

"The RCMP has a strong presence and an exceptional reputation in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador and I am happy that we are witnessing the enhancement of their services in Nain," said the minister.

Minister Decker will take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony this evening to officially open the building in Nain. He will be joined by representatives of the federal government and several visiting members of the RCMP.
